Back on practice squad
Zylstra reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Zylstra was elevated to the active roster prior to Sunday's Week 9 win over Green Bay but didn't log any offensive snaps. He did tally five snaps on special teams and returned one kick for 19 yards. Zylstra was also active in Week 7 but didn't see any offensive snaps in that game, either.

Elevated to active roster
Zylstra was elevated from the Lions' practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against Miami.
Analysis: This marks the second consecutive game that Zylstra has been promoted to Detroit's active roster, as the team continues to battle a number of injuries in its wide receiver corps. He played exclusively on special teams in Week 8, and that could the case once again against the Dolphins.

Returns to practice squad
Zylstra reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Analysis: Zylstra played nine snaps on special teams Sunday against the Cowboys and was unable to tally any stats. The veteran receiver could see another elevation to the main roster Sunday against the Dolphins with DJ Chark (ankle) and Quintez Cephus (foot) still on IR,

Elevated from practice squad
Zylstra was elevated from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Saturday.
Analysis: This will be Zylstra's first time on the active roster this season, but he has considerable NFL experience, playing in 53 games over the past four seasons. His best campaign came last year with Carolina, as he compiled 18 catches on 25 targets for 250 yards and a touchdown. Detroit has a need for wide receiver depth with DJ Chark (ankle) moved to IR on Saturday and Josh Reynolds questionable for Sunday's game in Dallas due to a knee injury.

Joins Lions
Zylstra was signed to Detroit's practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Zylstra will now join his brother Shane on the team's practice squad. The 29-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Panthers and was a member of their final roster cuts at the end of training camp.

Released by Panthers
Zylstra was released by the Panthers on Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Zylstra re-signed with the Panthers in March, but he will hit the open market after failing to make the team's final roster. The wide receiver played 13 games with the Panthers in 2021, catching 18 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown. The 29-year-old will likely sign with another squad in need of wide receiver depth.

Back with Panthers
Zylstra re-signed with the Panthers on a one-year contract Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Zylstra briefly hit the open market but will return to Carolina for the fourth consecutive season. The 28-year-old set career highs across the board in 2021 with 18 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown in 13 games.

No yards Sunday
Zylstra didn't catch either of his two targets in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers. He also attempted an incomplete pass.
Analysis: Zylstra played just three snaps after returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list last week, but with Terrace Marshall (foot) sidelined Sunday, Zylstra reclaimed Carolina's No. 3 wideout role and featured on nearly 70 percent of the offensive plays. Despite his increased involvement, Zylstra didn't manage any yards on the day. As a result, he ends this season with 18 catches on 25 targets for 250 yards and a touchdown in 14 appearances. Even though they came within one of the league's worst…read more

Tiny offensive role
Zylstra played just three offensive snaps and was not targeted in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Zylstra returned from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, but his time out prevented him from seeing the field much offensively. In contrast, rookie wideout Terrace Marshall played 44 snaps, catching two passes for 16 yards. Although Carolina's underwhelming offense restricts the upside of its third receiver, it'll be interesting to see whether Marshall or Zylstra gets more run Week 18 versus the Buccaneers.

Comes off COVID-19 list
Carolina activated Zylstra (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: Zylstra looks like he'll be available to play Sunday in New Orleans after he was deactivated ahead of last week's eventual loss to Tampa Bay upon testing positive for the virus hours before kickoff. Assuming Zylstra is good to go from a conditioning standpoint, he could step back in as the Panthers' No. 3 receiver, a role he held prior to going on the COVID-19 list. The job wasn't especially fruitful for fantasy purposes, with Zylstra recording no more than four receptions in any of his past…read more

Tests positive for virus
Zylstra's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday was the result of a positive test of the virus, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old receiver was added to the list less than two hours prior to the Panthers' 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers. Assuming he's vaccinated, Zylstra will have a chance to be available for the Panthers' Week 17 game against the Saints if he can clear the necessary COVID-19 return-to-play protocols, but the wideout will almost certainly miss practice time leading up to the contest. Terrace Marshall served as Carolina's No. 3 receiver Week 16 while Zylstra was out, finishing with one catch for…read more

Added to COVID list
The Panthers placed Zylstra on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Until Zylstra clears the NFL's COVID-19-related protocols, Terrace Marshall is a candidate for increased snaps. To add depth at the wideout position in advance of the Week 16 contest, Carolina elevated wide receiver C.J. Saunders from the practice squad.

Makes two grabs
Zylstra caught two of four targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Zylstra once again served as Carolina's No. 3 receiver, playing over 70 percent of the offensive snaps. However, with kicker Zane Gonzalez (quadriceps) getting injured pre-game, Zylstra was also trusted with kickoff duties. Although he didn't net many fantasy points overall, Zylstra proved his worth to the Panthers with his flexibility Sunday.

Makes four grabs
Zylstra caught four of five targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Zylstra played over half of Carolina's offensive snaps, remaining more involved than teammate Terrace Marshall despite the rookie's return Sunday. Furthermore, while Marshall wasn't even targeted, Zylstra trailed only top wideouts DJ Moore and Robby Anderson in receptions and targets. At this stage, the veteran Zylstra has seemingly claimed the Panthers' third receiver job, helping his value even if his upside remains very modest.

One catch Sunday
Zylstra caught one of two targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: Zylstra placed second on Carolina in receiving yards, evidence of the team's struggles through the air Sunday. Interestingly, the veteran played over half of the offensive snaps while rookie Terrace Marshall was a healthy scratch. That situation is something to monitor once the Panthers return from their Week 13 bye, as Zylstra's stock could improve slightly should he remain the preferred slot option.

Makes a catch
Zylstra caught one of two targets for seven yards in Sunday's 27-21 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Zylstra's reception gave him a catch in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Although he's hauled in 11 of his 12 targets thus far, Zylstra's 164 yards and one score through eight appearances evidences his limited fantasy value.

Makes two grabs
Zylstra caught both his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Zylstra hadn't played in three weeks due to a hamstring injury, but he took advantage of both his pass-catching opportunities Sunday. As a depth wideout in an underwhelming passing game, however, Zylstra holds little weekly fantasy value.

Back on active roster
Zylstra (hamstring) was removed from IR and placed onto the Panthers' active roster Saturday, Will Bryan of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Zylstra ended up spending the minimum three weeks on IR after hurting his hamstring in Week 6. While his contributions on offense have been modest -- eight catches for 139 yards -- Zylstra is a key special teams player for the Panthers.

Designated to return from IR
Zylstra (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since landing on the Panthers' injured reserve.
Analysis: Zylstra landed on the Panthers' injured reserve midway through October and finally seems healthy enough to return to practice. The Panthers have three weeks to activate their receiver to the active roster before he's stuck on injured reserve for the remainder of the year. Expect Zylstra's return to have a minimal impact on the Panthers' offense.

Lands on injured reserve
Zylstra was placed on injured reserve Tuesday due to a hamstring injury.
Analysis: While Zylstra hasn't been a huge part of the offense this season, he does have a trio of multi-catch contests under his belt. The Panthers will be down some wide receiver depth as a result, but the team used the roster spot to sign punter Ryan Winslow to the active roster.

Makes three grabs
Zylstra caught all three of his targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 34-28 overtime loss against the Vikings.
Analysis: Zylstra shook off a hamstring injury suffered during the game and trailed only DJ Moore for Carolina's team lead in receptions, and he's now hauled in all eight passes thrown his way this season. Although he usually holds minimal fantasy upside, Zylstra could see more playing time if rookie Terrace Marshall is unable to clear concussion protocol ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the Giants.

Returns to action
Zylstra (hamstring) has returned to Sunday's game against the Vikings, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
Analysis: Zylstra left the game in the first half, but the injury wasn't as serious as originally expected and he's managed to return to action.

Sidelined with hamstring issue
Zylstra is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Vikings due to a hamstring injury, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Zylstra has served as a depth receiver for the Panthers throughout the season but failed to record a reception Sunday prior to suffering the injury. Shi Smith and Alex Erickson could see an increased role if Zylstra remains sidelined.

Career-long grab
Zylstra caught both his targets for 63 yards in Sunday's 36-28 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Zylstra's output was supported by a career-long catch of 55 yards. Only DJ Moore outgained him through the air among Carolina receivers, but while Zylstra has been sprinkled in occasionally so far, his low overall involvement restricts his weekly value.

Scores rare touchdown
Zylstra caught all three of his targets for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Saints.
Analysis: Zylstra made the most of his 14 offensive snaps, hauling in the first receiving touchdown of his four-year career with a 20-yarder in the first quarter. As Carolina's fourth wideout, Zylstra can't be expected to match Sunday's production often, but his Week 2 impact should keep him in the mix for Sam Darnold.

Re-ups with Panthers
Carolina re-signed Zylstra to a one-year deal Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Zylstra has been a key contributor on special teams over three seasons with the Panthers, earning him a spot with the team in 2021 as well. With just three catches for 35 yards across 16 games in 2020, he remains off the fantasy radar.

Completes full season
Zylstra finished the 2020 season with three catches on four targets for 35 yards and one carry for one yard in 16 games played.
Analysis: Zylstra played sparingly on offense, but he actually scored his first career touchdown with a fumble recovery on special teams in Week 16's win over Washington. As a restricted free agent this offseason, it'll be interesting to see whether the Panthers bring Zylstra back to fill a similar role next season.

Scores on special teams
Zylstra was not targeted but did recover a muffed punt for a touchdown in Sunday's 20-13 win over Washington.
Analysis: Zylstra flew down the field and fell on a dropped punt that trickled into the end zone, opening the scoring for the Panthers. The veteran has caught just three passes this season, but Sunday's recovery at least gave him his first career touchdown.

Good to go Sunday
Zylstra (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Zylstra entered the weekend questionable despite logging back-to-back full practices to close out the week. The 27-year-old has played sparingly on offense this season, totaling 70 snaps and two receptions for 32 yards.

Makes long catch
Zylstra caught his only target for 28 yards in Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: Zylstra connected with punter Joseph Charlton on a successful fake punt to begin the second quarter, but considering it marked just the second reception of the season for Zylstra, the depth wideout's fantasy value remains almost non-existent.

Closes out 2019 with impressive day
Zylstra hauled in six of eight targets for 96 receiving yards during Sunday's 42-10 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: The 26-year-old wideout from Concordia-Moorhead (MN) took advantage of increased playing time Week 17, logging a game high in receiving yards as Carolina's No. 1 WR D.J. Moore sat out with a concussion. Zylstra fielded a season-high 24 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps Week 16 when Moore went down with injury in the first quarter of a blowout loss to Indianapolis, but in the season finale against New Orleans, he was even more involved, finishing behind only Christian McCaffrey in targets…read more

Opportunity knocks
Offensive coordinator Scott Turner said Thursday that Zylstra is one of the receivers expected to fill in for D.J. Moore (concussion) in Week 17, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In the likely event that Moore is forced to sit out Sunday's regular-season finale against the Saints, Zylstra and Chris Hogan will likely be the primary beneficiaries of increased roles on offense. The second-year pro caught his only target for three yards during Week 16's loss to the Colts.

Zylstra caught one of two targets for seven yards in Sunday's 40-20 loss to the Falcons.
